University can sometimes feel complicated.
You may know exactly what you need help with. But sometimes you simply have a question, don't know which University team deals with it, or aren't sure where to start.
ASK@WLV is the University's first point of contact for student queries.
The friendly and knowledgeable ASK@WLV team can answer many questions directly and help you find the right University service when somebody else is better placed to help.
No question is too big or too small.
What Can I Ask About?
ASK@WLV is there for the practical questions that arise throughout your student journey.
You might contact the team because you need help understanding or navigating things such as your student record, enrolment, module registration, funding or another aspect of University administration.
But you don't need to work out whether your particular question falls into the right category before making contact.
If ASK@WLV can resolve your query, they can help you. If your question needs specialist advice or action from another area of the University, they can help you identify where it needs to go.
A Good Place to Start When You Don't Know Where to Start
One of the most useful things about ASK@WLV is that you don't need to understand how the University is organised before asking for help.
You may be thinking:
“I don't know who deals with this.”
“I've been told to contact the University, but I don't know which team.”
“I'm not sure whether this is something my School deals with.”
“I don't understand what I'm supposed to do next.”
“I just need someone to point me in the right direction.”
Those are all good reasons to ASK.
Sometimes the most useful answer isn't immediately solving the whole problem — it is helping you identify the right next step.
ASK@WLV and Specialist Student Support
ASK@WLV is a student enquiry and customer-service function. It doesn't replace the University's specialist support teams.
For example, you may need specialist help from Mental Health & Wellbeing, Accessibility Disability & Inclusion, Safeguarding, Student Money, Support to Study or another service.
If you already know that you need one of those specialist services, you can usually contact that service directly.
If you don't know what kind of help you need, ASK@WLV can be a useful starting point.
That distinction is helpful:
I know which specialist service I need → contact that service.
I have a University question and don't know who deals with it → ASK@WLV.
Something is affecting my immediate safety or there is an emergency → use the appropriate urgent or emergency route rather than waiting for a routine ASK@WLV response.
Check the FAQs First
Sometimes you can find the answer immediately without waiting to speak with anybody.
Current students can log into e:Vision and review ASK@WLV's Frequently Asked Questions for instant support. You will need your University email address and password to sign in.
If the FAQs don't answer your question, you can log a help call through e:Vision.
This gives you a route to submit your query and receive a response without needing to visit campus.
Ways to Contact ASK@WLV

The current published opening hours are Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm.
Because opening arrangements can change, check the ASK@WLV page for the latest information before travelling to campus.
ASK@WLV and Student Finance
ASK@WLV can also be particularly useful if you have a Student Finance or funding query.
This might include a question about your student record or something affecting the administration of your funding.
If the issue has developed into financial hardship or difficulty meeting essential living costs, you may also need the University's Student Money support.
So, for example:
“I have a query about my Student Finance” → ASK@WLV can be a useful first point of contact.
“I don't have enough money for food or rent” → you may also need Student Money and wider financial support.
Sometimes you may need both.
Something Has Gone Wrong, and I Don't Know Who to Contact
Difficult circumstances can create practical University problems as well as emotional ones.
For example, after illness, bereavement, a safeguarding concern, homelessness or another significant event, you might also have questions about:
- your enrolment or student record;
- your course administration;
- funding;
- who you need to notify;
- which University team deals with a particular issue.
ASK@WLV can help with those practical questions or direct you to the appropriate part of the University.
You can therefore use ASK@WLV alongside specialist support.
Having a Mental Health & Wellbeing practitioner, Safeguarding case worker or Support to Study practitioner does not mean that every routine University query needs to go through them.
Sometimes ASK@WLV remains the quickest and most appropriate place for the practical question.
ASK@WLV Doesn't Replace Emergency or Specialist Support
ASK@WLV is not an emergency service.
If somebody is in immediate danger or there is an immediate threat to life, call 999.
If you are on campus and need immediate assistance, contact University Security.
Similarly, if you already know that your concern requires specialist support — for example safeguarding, mental health or disability support — you can use the relevant specialist service directly rather than waiting for ASK@WLV to redirect you.
Got a Question? Just ASK
You don't need to know the name of the team, understand a University procedure or work out the answer yourself before getting in touch.
If you have a question about your student experience and you're simply not sure who to ask, ASK@WLV is a good place to start.
