Plan how you are getting home before a night out where possible.
If using a taxi or private hire vehicle, check that you are getting into the vehicle you intended to use.
The University's current guidance explains an important distinction:
Taxis can be hired at a taxi rank, pre-booked or hailed in the street.
Private hire vehicles must be pre-booked and cannot legally be hailed in the street.
Before travelling, you can:
- check the vehicle and registration;
- check the driver's identification;
- confirm that the vehicle matches your booking;
- share your journey details with somebody you trust;
- trust your instincts if something does not feel right.
If you feel threatened or unsafe, seek help when it is safe to do so.
