Suicidal distress can create a very narrow view of the future.

A person may genuinely feel that nothing can change.

Part of suicide prevention is therefore not only assessing danger.

It is also helping somebody reconnect with:

  • possibilities;
  • support;
  • solutions;
  • reasons to continue;
  • the possibility that circumstances can change.

The University’s suicide-prevention work has deliberately centred compassion, safeguarding, safety planning and hope rather than relying only on clinical labels or risk prediction.
