Having a health condition, disability or mental health difficulty does not, by itself, mean that somebody is not fit to practise.
The relevant question is whether there is a genuine concern about someone's ability to practise or train safely and effectively, taking account of the individual circumstances and appropriate support or adjustments.
The University's policy includes health concerns where, for example, there may be a lack of insight into a condition affecting practice, appropriate treatment or support is not being engaged with, or a condition may impair fitness to practise.
Where health or disability is relevant, the University should also consider its responsibilities towards the student, including appropriate support and reasonable adjustments.
The purpose should be to understand and manage genuine professional risk — not to penalise somebody simply for having a health condition or disability.
