Helping Students Succeed Safely and Effectively
The University of Wolverhampton is committed to supporting students to succeed academically whilst maintaining their health, wellbeing and safety.
Most students will experience challenges during their studies. Sometimes those challenges may begin to affect a student's ability to engage effectively with their course, placements, assessments or wider university life.
The Support to Study process provides a structured and supportive framework to help students access appropriate support, remove barriers to success and make informed decisions about their studies.
What Is Support to Study?
Support to Study is a supportive process designed to:
- identify concerns at an early stage;
- understand barriers affecting a student's engagement;
- coordinate support across services;
- promote student wellbeing and success;
- reduce risks to the student or others;
- support informed decision-making.
The process is not intended to be punitive.
In most cases, it aims to work collaboratively with students to identify solutions and support.
Reasons a Student Might Be Referred
Examples may include:
- significant disengagement from studies;
- Repeated non-attendance;
- deterioration in well-being;

- safeguarding concerns;
- Repeated concerns raised by staff;

- support options may be discussed.
- A Support to Study meeting may be arranged.
- An action plan may be developed.
- Referrals may be made to specialist services.
Students will normally be involved in discussions wherever possible.
Possible Outcomes
Outcomes may include:
- continued study with additional support;
- agreed support plans;
- adjustments or interventions;
