Professional courses can involve significant responsibilities towards other people.
Depending upon your profession, this could include responsibility towards:
patients • service users • children • pupils • clients • colleagues • vulnerable people • members of the public
Professional regulators therefore expect students preparing to enter these professions to develop and demonstrate appropriate professional standards during their training.
The University also has responsibilities to consider the safety of the people with whom students may come into contact.
Fitness to Practise is therefore not simply another disciplinary process. Its focus is whether there is a concern about someone's ability or suitability to continue training for a particular profession.
